Sergino Dest has revealed that PSV has entered talks with Barcelona over making his loan switch from his parent club into a permanent one.

The U.S. fullback has previously stated his desire to stay in the Netherlands with PSV beyond the 2023-24 Eredivisie season, as a reported fee of nearly $11million (£8.8M) would be required to fulfill the 23-year-old’s wish, according to Goal

On Saturday, after PSV’s 6-0 trashing of Vitesse, Dest spoke to ESPN about his future. PSV sits top of the table, nine points clear of second-place Feyenoord.

The club can be crowned champions as early as next weekend, if Dest and Co. pick up their 27th win of the campaign against SC Heerenveen.

Asked if he will stay in the Netherlands past this summer, Dest said ‘there is certainly a possibility,’ adding that PSV is pleased with his displays and that he’s enjoying life back in his country of birth. Dest was born in Almere – a suburb of Amsterdam. His father is Surinamese and American, while his mother is Dutch.

‘PSV is very satisfied with me and I am enjoying myself here,’ the player, who last played for the US in March, said. ‘We are doing well as a team, we are close to being champions and next year we will play in the Champions League.’

He added: ‘Everything has to be right and it’s up to us to fix everything to reach a good agreement.’

Dest has two goals in 24 appearances for PSV this season, equaling his tally at Barca.

He came up the ranks at Ajax before making his professional debut during the 2019-20 season. After just a year of playing at the Johan Cruyff Arena, he moved to join Barcelona, where he struggled to establish himself as the club’s starting right-back before he was shipped out on loan.

In 2022, Dest struggled for gametime after making a temporary switch to AC Milan. He only played eight times for the Italian club before joining PSV last summer.
