Denis Leary Comedy Series ‘Going Dutch’ Ordered At Fox

Denis Leary (The Moodys, Rescue Me) is set to star in the newly greenlit single-camera comedy Going Dutch from creator/showrunner Joel Church-Cooper (Brockmire) and Fox Entertainment Studios. Leary executive produces alongside Jack Leary (Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll) under their Amoeba production banner and Church-Cooper.

Going Dutch follows an arrogant loudmouth U.S. Army Colonel who, after an epically unfiltered rant, is reassigned to the Netherlands, where he is punished with a command position at the least important army base in the world. After serving with distinction in every warzone of the last three decades, he now finds himself in charge of a base with no guns, weapons, or tactical purpose.

Instead, it has a Michelin-star level commissary, a top-notch bowling alley, and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Army. Surrounded by a diverse group of underdogs, the colonel tries to reinstall military discipline and professionalism with the help of the base’s previous interim leader, who happens to be his estranged daughter.

Casting is currently underway and new additions will be revealed at a later date.

“We are thrilled to be back in business with Denis Leary. Going Dutch captures Denis’s comic genius and in-your-face storytelling style,” said Michael Thorn, President of the FOX Television Network. “Denis, Jack and our showrunner and creator Joel have brilliantly envisioned this original, offbeat take and inherently funny salute to the military workplace comedy. We also believe their show is the perfect comedy companion to our hit Animal Control.”

Most recently, Leary worked with Fox on the comedy series The Moody’s in the lead role of Sean Moody Sr. opposite Elizabeth Perkins who played his wife Ann. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of New York City firefighter Tommy Gavin in the FX dramedy Rescue Me across the show’s 7 seasons. For the role, Leary earned two acting Emmy Award nominations (2006, 2007) and one for writing (2005).

“I don’t think The Netherlands has ever seen such a collection of loud, selfish, screwed-up Americans,” Leary shared. “And it’s all Fox’s fault.”

Church-Cooper was the co-creator and showrunner of IFC’s Brockmire, starring Hank Azaria. Most recently, he served as co-EP on Season 2 of Minx and was a co-EP on Seasons 2 and 3 of the Hulu comedy series Future Man.

Jack Leary is a writer, producer and director who runs Amoeba alongside Denis Leary. Under the Amoeba banner, Jack oversees the development of various projects across the TV, film and new media landscape.

Church-Cooper will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer on the series. Denis Leary and Jack Leary also will serve as executive producers.

Going Dutch will be produced by FOX Entertainment Studios and distributed by Fox Entertainment Global.
