F1 driver Lando Norris gets injured partying in Amsterdam

McLaren Formula One star Lando Norris is set to race at this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix despite suffering a busted nose in an Amsterdam partying accident.

Norris is enjoying a strong start to the F1 season and made the most of a gap between races to celebrate King’s Day in the Netherlands with renowned Dutch DJ Martin Garrix.

Footage has surfaced on social media of Norris living his best life on a party boat on a canal in Amsterdam over the weekend.

The 24-year-old Brit could be seen dancing along to the music among the throng of revellers dressed in orange, the national colour of the Netherlands.

But things turned sour when Norris appeared to hurt himself.

He was pictured looking slightly bloody with a makeshift bandage covering his nose and was also spotted sporting medical tape over his nose.

It’s unclear exactly how Norris sustained the injury, but PlanetF1.com reports he may have cut his nose on broken glass.

Despite looking a bit worse for wear, Norris is believed to be fine and shared a video just hours later showing he had arrived in Miami ahead of the sixth race of the season.

He is currently fifth in the drivers’ championship behind the two Red Bull and Ferrari drivers, while McLaren is third in the constructors’ standings ahead of Mercedes.

Norris was particularly impressive in his last start in China, finishing second in a superb drive.

But while he continues to rack up the podiums, he is yet to claim a maiden race win in F1.

Norris has 15 podium finishes, the most out of any F1 driver who hasn’t won a race.

At the Australian Grand Prix, he moved past former Sauber, Williams and Renault driver Nick Heidfeld, who had 13 podiums between 2000 and 2011.

And the unwanted record is clearly something on Norris’ mind as he took aim at an Aussie fan who reminded him he’d yet to claim the top step of the podium.

A TikTok video showed Norris giving a fan a one-fingered salute after he yelled out: “When are you going to win a race, Lando?”

There has been plenty of off-track updates in the F1 world during the fortnight between races in China and Miami.

Nico Hulkenberg announced he will be leaving Haas to join Sauber at the end of the ongoing season, kicking off the mid-year silly season.

And legendary car designer Adrian Newey has reportedly decided to leave Red Bull because of the Christian Horner sexting scandal that threatened to tear the team apart earlier this year.

Newey, 65, has been with Red Bull since 2005 and has played a key role in all of the team’s 13 world titles — seven drivers and six constructors — since 2010.

Newey has also worked with championship-winning teams at Williams and McLaren in his long career.

The F1 season continues at the Miami Grand Prix on Monday May 6 (AEST).
