Dutch football journalist Hugo Borst believes that Arne Slot will win a Premier League title with Liverpool within three years of his appointment.
Slot is yet to be officially announced as Jurgen Klopp‘s successor, but Liverpool have now agreed a £9.4m deal with Feyenoord for the 45-year-old.
The Dutch coach, who has won the Eredivisie and KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) with Feyenoord, has the unenviable task of replacing Klopp at the end of the season, but his impressive record in the Netherlands has the majority of Liverpool supporters excited.
But they’re not alone in their optimism, with Dutch football writer Borst suggesting that Slot could guide the Reds to a second Premier League title within two to three years.
Speaking with NOS Langs de Lijn, Borst, who has written multiple books about Dutch football and one about former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, made a bold prediction regarding Slot’s potential success at Anfield.
“It’s good that they are making policy and have looked for someone who resembles the man they really liked: Jurgen Klopp. But forget the white, big teeth and the hair for a moment,” said Borst.
“Like Klopp, Slot is someone who has not had an impressive career as a footballer. He gets along very well with youth and once became champion with a fairly large club. And he is seen as intelligent and eloquent.
“I would almost say it is a no-brainer. In two or three years he will win the Premier League.”
It’s certainly an exciting prediction from Borst and says a lot about Slot’s influence on Dutch football, even if it could be considered over-optimistic.
After all, it was only in Klopp’s fourth full season that Liverpool won their first Premier League crown, although he did win the Champions League the season before.
However, Slot is inheriting a much, much healthier Liverpool squad than Klopp did, with supporters allowed to be excited about what the future could hold under the Dutchman.
