Three prominent scientists with strong ties to the University of Twente have been recognised by the Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE). Hans Hilgenkamp has been appointed as a Fellow, while Sefora Tunc and Olga Koshkina have received the prestigious title of Young Engineer. These honours highlight the influential contributions of UT scientists to technological and societal progress.
The Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE) has appointed Hans Hilgenkamp, professor of Applied Physics and scientific director of MESA+ at the UT, as a Fellow. This prestigious title is awarded to individuals who have contributed exceptionally to engineering and technology in the Netherlands.
Hans Hilgenkamp is recognised for his pioneering work on nanoelectronic materials and nanotechnology, including superconductivity. His work is widely cited and awarded. He leads large-scale research programs such as the NL-ECO initiative on energy-efficient computing, which connects science and industry. He also played a key role in founding the Global Young Academy. The appointment as a Fellow underscores his dedication and influence in the field.
Sefora Tunc and Olga Koshkina (TechMed Centre) were installed as Young Engineers of the NAE during the General Meeting of Members on Dec. 12 in Amsterdam. Tunc (EEMCS), a researcher in the Department of Biomedical Signals and Systems (BSS), achieved breakthroughs in eHealth Technology to develop user-centred with the elderly. Koshkina, CEO of Phos4nova and former researcher at the Faculty of Science and Technology (S&T), focuses on advanced nanomaterials for medical applications and has won several prestigious awards.
